Welcome to the USS Montana!

Welcome to the Federation Starship USS Montana NCC-1889
A member of the Independence Fleet.

We are a semi-canon based sim, having commenced our voyages in 2289, approximately two years after the events of the movie Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home with some modifications to the continuity.

We are now six months after the events of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, which is set in 2293. Thus the Federation and Starfleet are still expanding and the period of great exploration is underway. Are the Klingons we meet now friendly and trustworthy, or are they still dangerous and aggressive antagonists...

Key deviations from canon in our alternate timeline include:

1. StarTrek: The Motion Picture never happened but Captain James T Kirk completed a second five year mission and was promoted to Admiral;

2. The events in the other movies occurred as shown on screen:
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

3. At the end Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, James T. Kirk is demoted from Admiral to Commodore. He and the Enterprise were sent off on a third and final five year mission.
Sulu left the ship and was promoted to Captain of the Excelsior.

4. For us the future is open and unknown...

Mission: Children of the Stars
Posted on Sun Oct 26th, 2025 @ 3:26am by Lieutenant Aubrie Fox & Lieutenant Dezkar Veen

The oversized doors to the Main Cargo Bay opened with an elongated drone. Dez walked through the opening, his long strides carrying him over the threshold with a poised confidence that conveyed determination. He exhaled slowly, letting his mind settle from a long day full of diagnostics and system calibrations that were little more than a standard monotony. This is life now, he thought to himself as he surveyed the Cargo Bay with discerning eyes.

It was early. He knew that Gamma shift would be on watch, and the odds of a fully staffed Cargo Bay were low. This he…

Mission: Children of the Stars
Posted on Sat Oct 25th, 2025 @ 9:08pm by Ensign Jaxson Callahan III & Lieutenant Commander Steve Ryan

The shuttle’s ramp descended with a hydraulic hiss, releasing a faint curl of coolant into the bay as Ensign Jaxson Callahan III stepped onto the deck. He paused for a second, absorbing the familiar sensations, the low thrum of the ship’s systems, the scent of plasma exhaust, the purposeful movement of crew in motion. A starship between assignments always felt like a deep breath before something important.

Spotting the officer awaiting his arrival, Callahan crossed the shuttlebay with measured confidence, halting at attention before the Lieutenant Commander.

“Lieutenant Commander Ryan,” he said, voice steady and respectful, “Ensign Jaxson Callahan the…

{Deck 3, Jefferies tube}

Kestra sighed as she climbed out of the Jefferies tube then wiped her hands on her pants as she looked up at Wallace “that little son of a targ took off and left me!”

Ensign Kosh laughed. “I’ll tag in and go after Savage and our unwanted guests.” He jumped into the Jefferies tube.

Kestra shook her head. “Ok so maybe I am over my head. I never claimed to be a hunter. These creatures don’t give off a bio signature that we have found yet but they seem to be nibbling on different surfaces…

Astrometrics

Fiona stood at a terminal. Her hair is styled into a beehive bun. Wearing a shorter red unform skirt that stops at her mid-thigh. It rides up her legs slightly, revealing the lower hem of her black lace underpants. Her black leather knee high boots glisten in the lighting.

Murphy checks the time. Ensign Flores should be in astrometrics doing the last minute checks and scans before the mission. He heads there, striding through the doors, but stopping short at the sight of visible undergarments.

He cleared his throat.

Fiona hears the doors divide, followed by the clearing…

Mission: Children of the Stars
Posted on Fri Oct 17th, 2025 @ 2:43am by Captain Michael Murphy & Lieutenant Ilana Marquez

It was not like Ilana to be nervous. However, not only was she transferring ships, but she was going to be a Chief Medical Officer. She had never done that before. Sure, she was confident in her ability but there were so many unknowns: What would the captain be like? Would he respect her? Would the crew like her? What about her staff?

Whatever doubts she might have, she squashed them down in her stomach. She inquired of the computer of the Captain's whereabouts. It was her duty to report in to him or the XO and she was going…

It’s strange being back aboard the Montana after a few weeks on leave. For the first time in years, I let myself slow down. Saw my parents. Let my siblings remind me how much they think they still know me. I even ran on the old track at my high school — same place where I thought life was so simple, before Starfleet and before all… this.

Now, I’m back, and everything feels heavier. Not in a bad way — just… significant. I didn’t expect command to move this quickly. I was barely getting my feet under me as Chief…

Captain's Personal Log.

We leave Janus VI in the hands of the Klingons. It feels like we wasted effort trying to keep it away from them for these last weeks. We have to trust in the wisdom of the diplomats. I've never heard of the Federation willingly ceding territory to the Klingons, but there are certainly factors we are unaware of. Perhaps we got something we needed in exchange for a mining planet in need of rehabilitation. I still can't help but feel as though we were defeated.

Oh, I also finally looked into the interesting events in Engineering with…

Captain's Log.

I'm almost done with my report on the incident with the Athena. The scans of the area confirmed Lieutenant Mitchell's analysis. The ship had alien and other incompatible parts hooked up to it's engine, most likely trying to improve on it's existing design. Several of the parts could have led to the explosions, making the report a little more tedious than usual. I have to wonder what kind of a Captain is making decisions that puts money and profit ahead of their crew.

Two survivors. And only because we were here. Had I decided to stay at Janus…

Computer, begin Captain's Personal Log.

The Klingons are gone, but I'll bet they'll be back. It's my understanding the pergium mine here at Janus VI is vital to the Federation. I can't do anything to get it up and running again, but I worry that if I leave it'll fall to the Klingons or another faction. My hope is that nothing happens to challenge our stand here. No other incident, no emergency, no other ships arrive. Unless they're the diplomats or the new miners, of course.

It would be unfortunate if how this unfolds becomes the way my time in…

Coming out of the shower, Kestra frowned as she ran her fingers through her hair. It had got very long in the time being on the ship. As she twisted it up in high ponytail, the long dark waves reached her back. Kestra had to keep reminding herself that her life had become boring and predictable on the base stations. She had dreamed of adventure. The subtle mysteries other ships had brought to the base stations she had served on had been intriguing. But, far too much time had passed in between the visits to…
