Captain's Personal Log.
We leave Janus VI in the hands of the Klingons. It feels like we wasted effort trying to keep it away from them for these last weeks. We have to trust in the wisdom of the diplomats. I've never heard of the Federation willingly ceding territory to the Klingons, but there are certainly factors we are unaware of. Perhaps we got something we needed in exchange for a mining planet in need of rehabilitation. I still can't help but feel as though we were defeated.
Oh, I also finally looked into the interesting events in Engineering with the device. I've scoured over the security footage, the computer logs, and the logs written by those involved. The only thing I've been able to sort out is mea extraordinaria. It means extraordinary measures. Article 14, Section 31, of the Starfleet Charter allows for extraordinary measures to be taken in times of extreme threat. I'm not sure it's connected, because as far as I know there's no extreme threat. But it's all I was able to find. I know that guy said not to ask questions, but I feel I should make an effort to figure out what's going on with that mystery device. They sure got here quick, and without being called, when it stopped working. I don't like being left with more questions than answers. The next time I meet up with another Starfleet Captain in person, I'll see what they know. It doesn't feel like a good thing to send through subspace communication.
We also have a new Communications and Operations Officer starting shortly. It's always nice to meet new crew.
That's about it for now. Computer, end log.
