Captain's Log.

I'm almost done with my report on the incident with the Athena. The scans of the area confirmed Lieutenant Mitchell's analysis. The ship had alien and other incompatible parts hooked up to it's engine, most likely trying to improve on it's existing design. Several of the parts could have led to the explosions, making the report a little more tedious than usual. I have to wonder what kind of a Captain is making decisions that puts money and profit ahead of their crew.

Two survivors. And only because we were here. Had I decided to stay at Janus VI, there would have been none. I've heard one of the survivors is Captain Harry Fudd, so I'll be able to question him about the situation later. Fortunately he'll be in Sickbay for a time being evaluated there, so he'll be easy to find.

I know there'll be a Starfleet investigation into the destruction of the Athena, but thanks to Mitchell's excellent documentation of the engine, I know we are unlikely to hear of it. That's one thing to be thankful for.

We're headed back to Janus VI to resume patrol while we wait for reinforcements from the Federation or Starfleet.

End log.
