Welcome to the USS Montana!
Welcome to the Federation Starship USS Montana NCC-1889
A member of the Independence Fleet.
A member of the Independence Fleet.
We are a semi-canon based sim, having commenced our voyages in 2289, approximately two years after the events of the movie Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home with some modifications to the continuity.
We are now six months after the events of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, which is set in 2293. Thus the Federation and Starfleet are still expanding and the period of great exploration is underway. Are the Klingons we meet now friendly and trustworthy, or are they still dangerous and aggressive antagonists...
Key deviations from canon in our alternate timeline include:
1. StarTrek: The Motion Picture never happened but Captain James T Kirk completed a second five year mission and was promoted to Admiral;
2. The events in the other movies occurred as shown on screen:
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
3. At the end Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, James T. Kirk is demoted from Admiral to Commodore. He and the Enterprise were sent off on a third and final five year mission.
Sulu left the ship and was promoted to Captain of the Excelsior.
4. For us the future is open and unknown...

Mission: Trouble with Mudd
Posted on Tue Jul 7th, 2026 @ 2:37pm by Lieutenant Celestine Eisenhorn & Captain Michael Murphy
:ON:
USS Montana Brig
Harry Mudd sat in his cell, staring at his serving of peanut butter. He had finished reading Count of Monte Cristo. A fabulous read, although truthfully he requested it more to see what response the particular request would get. He had expected to be told to select a different piece of literature. He now had a choice to make.
As much as the Federation thought it knew about Harry, he knew there were still some things they didn't know. See, he knew that knowledge was power. He had set up a chance to trade knowledge to…

Mission: Children of the Stars
Posted on Mon Jul 6th, 2026 @ 9:50pm by Lieutenant Celestine Eisenhorn & Lieutenant Commander Steve Ryan
The doors to the infirmary parted with a soft hydraulic sigh, and Lt. Commander Steve Ryan paused on the threshold for half a heartbeat. The lighting inside was lower than the bright corridor outside, a cooler spectrum that gave the room a faint, clinical calm. Banks of diagnostic consoles hummed along the far wall, their displays spilling slow cascades of teal and amber data. The sterile scent of antiseptic hung faintly in the air, just enough to remind everyone who stepped inside that this was the one place on the ship where the body, not the mission, took priority.
Steve…

Mission: Children of the Stars
Posted on Wed Jul 1st, 2026 @ 4:46am by Lieutenant Commander Steve Ryan
Some officers led with rank. Others led with presence.
Commander Steve Ryan, executive officer of the USS Montana, had become the kind of officer crews remembered long after the mission logs were archived. Calm under pressure, relentless when duty called, and grounded enough to understand that leadership began with listening, Ryan represented the best of Starfleet ideals.
Still... the paperwork that duty generated could test the patience of a Vulcan monk.
Ryan sat alone in the Montana’s dimly lit observation lounge, a cold cup of tea forgotten beside a padd overflowing with maintenance requests, personnel evaluations, cargo transfer disputes, and…

Mission: Children of the Stars
Posted on Sun Mar 8th, 2026 @ 8:49am by Lieutenant Celestine Eisenhorn & Lieutenant Aubrie Fox
Sickbay was quiet in the way only a starship’s medical ward ever was—alive with the low hum of diagnostics and the faint, constant breathing of the ship itself.
Dr Celestine Eisenhorn sat at her desk with the lights in her office dimmed to a thoughtful glow. The door was open, but the space felt contained, private. She had rolled up one sleeve of her uniform and was reviewing the Montana’s medical logs on a padd, her eyes moving steadily through names, conditions, duty rosters.
She wasn’t looking for problems. She was looking for patterns. Crew stress markers. Injury frequency. The…

Mission: Trouble with Mudd

ON:
(This post is set before the current mission)
Aubrie entered the navigation room, looking for Lt. Mann to ask for the report she had sent out to him a week before about the security assessment report she wanted all Senior staff to review and sign. So far they all had even the Captain, But Not Mann, So now it was a visit to the office.
Lt. Mann was still 'recovering' from his two-week leave that had just expired. Was it his fault that he had not reviewed this security report? No, he was on leave until just a day…

Posted on Wed Nov 5th, 2025 @ 3:44am by Lieutenant Aubrie Fox
I’ve been back aboard the Montana long enough to know when something—or someone—is going to test my patience. Lieutenant Veen fits that description a little too perfectly.
This evening, I responded to a security alert from Engineering. I expected a standard system glitch or maybe one of the new techs punching in the wrong clearance code. What I found instead was Veen, elbow-deep in a console with the access panel hanging off like a peeled hull plate and a look that said he’d been caught red-handed.
To his credit, he didn’t try too hard to cover it up. The “security…

It’s strange being back aboard the Montana after a few weeks on leave. For the first time in years, I let myself slow down. Saw my parents. Let my siblings remind me how much they think they still know me. I even ran on the old track at my high school — same place where I thought life was so simple, before Starfleet and before all… this.
Now, I’m back, and everything feels heavier. Not in a bad way — just… significant. I didn’t expect command to move this quickly. I was barely getting my feet under me as Chief…
» Farewell Janus VI

Captain's Personal Log.
We leave Janus VI in the hands of the Klingons. It feels like we wasted effort trying to keep it away from them for these last weeks. We have to trust in the wisdom of the diplomats. I've never heard of the Federation willingly ceding territory to the Klingons, but there are certainly factors we are unaware of. Perhaps we got something we needed in exchange for a mining planet in need of rehabilitation. I still can't help but feel as though we were defeated.
Oh, I also finally looked into the interesting events in Engineering with…

Captain's Log.
I'm almost done with my report on the incident with the Athena. The scans of the area confirmed Lieutenant Mitchell's analysis. The ship had alien and other incompatible parts hooked up to it's engine, most likely trying to improve on it's existing design. Several of the parts could have led to the explosions, making the report a little more tedious than usual. I have to wonder what kind of a Captain is making decisions that puts money and profit ahead of their crew.
Two survivors. And only because we were here. Had I decided to stay at Janus…

Computer, begin Captain's Personal Log.
The Klingons are gone, but I'll bet they'll be back. It's my understanding the pergium mine here at Janus VI is vital to the Federation. I can't do anything to get it up and running again, but I worry that if I leave it'll fall to the Klingons or another faction. My hope is that nothing happens to challenge our stand here. No other incident, no emergency, no other ships arrive. Unless they're the diplomats or the new miners, of course.
It would be unfortunate if how this unfolds becomes the way my time in…
