A sweet job proposal

Posted on Wed Dec 11th, 2024 @ 10:41am by Lieutenant Commander Steve Ryan

I’ve just returned from a meeting with Captain Murphy, and I still can’t quite believe what I’m about to record. As of this morning, I’ve been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander and offered the position of Executive Officer aboard the USS Montana.

I still can’t believe it.

The Montana. A starship with a storied history, the ship that I call home-far-from-home and now, she’s calling me to her bridge with a different role.

When I joined Starfleet, I dreamed of serving aboard vessels like the Montana, ships where exploration, diplomacy, and discovery happen every day. To think that I’ll not only be serving there but helping lead her crew, it’s exhilarating and daunting all at once.

I’m can’t wait to tell this to Deb. She is not going to believe me. When we piloted that fallen Pexel’s ship out of that colony on Babel I got my first bite of what command was like. It was both thrilling as well as scary, but I loved it. I was making something unique, and I had my own ship to command. Since that day I wanted to become Captain, and this is the best test bench for my future career.

Command comes with more than responsibility; it demands judgment, resilience, and sometimes, sacrifice. Am I ready for that?

It’s a long shot but working with Captain Murphy reassures me. Now on to my first mission as an XO.

End log.
