Mission:
Home Sweet home.
Location: Orbit around Chaltok IV
ON:
After a few hours of travel, the ship arrived at Chaltok IV.
"Communications, open a hailing frequency," said Captain Adams.
"Aye sir" came the response.
Looking over at his Senior Officers the Captain said, "Well, it looks like we are finally at our assigned duty station.. for now."
A few minutes later a message came over audio only,
"Greetings, USS Montana. Please beam down with your senior officers and we will discuss your mission here. That will be all."
Before anyone could say anything, the voice went dead.
Lt. Mann then said, "Sir we are receiving a location to beam down a landing party."
"Getting up from his Chair, Captain Adams said,
"Okay then, Lt. Mann, Commander Murphy, let's get about five other people, beam down, and see what is going on."
Steve eyed the station on the view screen and showed a perplexed face at the limited communication just received. He then logged off from his console getting relieved and stood ready for beaming over with the rest of the officers.
Kestra raised an eyebrow. Wait a minute, they were in Romulan Space at a Romulan base. The base knew the name of the ship and told them to beam down the senior officers to talk about our secret mission? She had been thinking they would have to be disguised as Romulans and infiltrate the base. Not this. Kestra looked to the xo for a clue as to what was going on.
Murphy was just as surprised as the rest of them, but he kept it to himself.
Upon hearing the Captain's orders, Valentina departed the bridge for the armory to prepare the away team's kit.
Murphy was tempted to take a weapon with. He normally wouldn't, but being deep in Romulan space and having been told they were expendable had his anxiety higher than usual. He decided that as a representative of Command, for better or for worse, he would not carry one.
Kestra's eyes snapped to Commander Murphy. He was anxious. Okay, then none of this was normal to him either. She looked over at the science station. "Did you pick up anything?"
The ensign shook her head no. "They are too heavily shielded." Kestra walked over and picked up a tricorder at the console. She then whispered. "See that both Harry and Savage are fed." She had a feeling she wasn't coming back any time soon, if at all. The ensign nodded "There was a moment I thought we picked up polaric ions. But that can't be right."
Kestra frowned" Keep scans active. None of this seems right."
Fox had a bad feeling about this, but kept them to herself.
In the Armory, Valentina finished preparing equipment kits for the away team. The Captain had been talking to the executive officer and Lieutenant Mann when he had suggested taking five others. That came to an eight person away team which struck her as rather odd in that it would require two transports from the 6-person transporter pad. Still, best to be prepared.
In addition to the standard communicator and type-2 phaser configuration, Valentina added a small survival pack for each of the expected away team members. She had also prepared two medical tricorders and four science tricorders, not knowing who would be selected for the away team. She also prepared a tricorder for herself to assist in the documentation and command support functions, should the Captain want her on the away team as well.
