Moving Day

Mission:
The World We Never Knew
Location: USS Montana, Babel orbit
ON:
Commander Murphy was in the transporter room with their new guest, Plex, overseeing the transport of the rest of Plex's people. There were about 100 of them, and they were being moved to a cargo bay, while under guard. Security would be stationed at the cargo bay until such time as they could be returned to their homeworld. Speaking of that, Plex hadn't shared a lot of information so far.
"So, where is your home planet?" Murphy asked Plex.
Plex smiled, "We consider this our home planet. There are still about 450 of us that will not leave. Commander, we must find a way to make this work out. They cannot drive us from our homes... we will start a civil war first. Earth had one of those and it worked out for the right side."
About this time, the Captain entered the cargo bay, "Commander, can you explain why all of these people are in my cargo bay? This had better be good."
Murphy straightened his posture. "Yes, Captain. These people have officially requested Federation assistance. They claim the people of Babel are going to execute two of their people in two days. I was trying to convince them to accept relocation since they are not native to Babel. I acted quickly due to the time limit."
The Captain then changed his look: "Great we cannot even get assigned to a simple mission without a hitch. Okay, Commander, what is your suggestion, if you have one?"
Murphy relaxed slightly. "I suggest their people be relocated to a suitable habitable world where they are not subject to the laws of anyone else, or where the laws are agreeable to them. A delegation of their people, with a small team of ours, could research this and find a suitable place in a short amount of time. I'm sure we could get the government of Babel to agree to accept exile in lieu of execution."
[Deck 7]
As Steve was walking along the main corridor of deck 7 he did a ninety degrees turn and almost hit the ensign coming his way from the other side of the turn.
"Oh I'm sorry, I was ..." he smiled as he noted who she was
"Steve, you should be more careful when walking...ehm...sir" O'Donnel told him with a smile on her face.
The lieutenant nodded grinning back "I should, ensign, I should. I was just headed for the cargo bay with some urgency and I was overthinking"
"The cargo bay, huh?" she echoed "I'm coming from there, there were some strangers on board. Do you know who they are?" she asked crossing her arms and laying against the drywall awaiting for an answer.
Steve shrugged "I've met only the leader of these people so far. They were stranded on Babel and could not head to their home planet." he scratched his chin "Hey, you can maybe help them...they had a ship but they damaged it while landing on Babel, maybe an engineering team can help them fix it?"
She shrugged "It depends on the extent of the damage, we can definitely have a look tho.."
"I am sure you can do wonders" he smiled and grabbed her arm pulling her towards him and starting to walk towards the cargo bay "Come, we can tell commander Murphy about this idea" and they both walked towards their destination.
"Wait" she yelled in a low voice "Commander Murphy was not in the cargo bay when I left, I think I've seen him in transporter room one"
"hmm, well let's get there then...it's right behind this corner" he concurred and pulled her along.
[Transporter Room]
Steve and Deborah entered the transporter room and immediately noticed, among the refugees, Commander Murphy and the Captain. They both flipped to the attention and saluted the senior officers.
"Relax before you break something" came the response from the Captain. How are things here?"
Murphy acknowledged the two, before waiting to hear their response.
The two officers relaxed.
“All fine, Sir” Steve answered “I was reporting to Commander Murphy to see if there were news on the refugees’ situation. Coming here I stumbled upon Ensign O’Donnel and thought she might be helpful if the issue is to repair the refugees’ spaceship to allow them to leave Babel” he shot a glance over to the engineer who simply nodded and stood silently.
"A fine suggestion," Murphy responded. He lowered his voice. "I want you two to take an additional engineer and a security officer and check out their ship. If it needs repairs, see what you can do. The security is just in case they're not telling us something."
“Yessir” the two answered almost at the same time “Permission to disembark then?” Steve then asked.
"Put the team together, but hold off on disembarking until after we can have a mission briefing," Murphy responded. "Shouldn't be more than two hours before you'll be able to go".
“We’ll prepare things for when the meeting will be over”, the lieutenant concurred, and having said that, they left the room headed to prepare the away team and mission.
