Mission: Welcome Aboard
Location: USS Montana
Timeline: Current

It had been exactly a day as Captain. Marcus was tired. She had to finish filling out some last minute paperwork regarding the 2 new transfers.

Marcus knew that if everything went on track they would be at the starbase by noon tomorrow.

That meant the crew had to be notified of what to do upon arrival. Fourtanly for Marcus it was the last thing on her duties for her shift.

Then she could finally rest and hit the hay. Her bed was made from silk imported from India so she loved using it when possible.

“Broadcast shipwide” Marcus barked at communication. “Yes sir” He replied while punching the necessary buttons.

“Bridge to crew. This is your Captain speaking. I know we're all shaken up given the Admirals announcement about Harrison. However, think of it as a learning curb. Anyway I know I have to learn as Captain. That said I also have a lot to learn from you. I believe given time we can do it” Marcus explained with a sense of sadness in her voice.

“Lastly crew I know you all know we are hours from Starbase 12. I need you all to be ready for whatever strange occurrences may happen.”
Marcus ended.

Marcus stood up from her chair. Grabbed a PADD off a nearby stand and handed to Mann. “I assume you know what to do?” She asked.

Mann was on the bridge sitting in the Captain’s chair, he was the officer on bridge duty until relieved by the next shift, when a message came in.

“Lt. Mann we are receiving a message sir. But it is badly broken up” said the communications officer.

“Put it on speaker” replied Mann.

“This is L….Comman…...Jeff…..we are in need of ass……”

“That is all we got sir. I will continue to work to clean up the message, but it does not look good” replied the Communications Officer.

Mann looked over at the helm officer,

“Helm, increase speed to warp factor 7.”

“Aye, aye sir” came the response.
Looking back at the communications officer, Mann said,

“Please notify the Captain of this update.”

Marcus really did not want to be woken up moments after she fell asleep. However duty called.

"What's the problem?' Marcus asked, approaching the ship's main door.

"We have a distress signal," Mann replied. Standing from the chair. "Sit back down lieutenant I'm only here to sort this out." Marcus replied.

Suddenly the voice came back. Marcus found herself in a sense of familiarity.

"St..Star..F..leet...Jefferies again...Help...Sta.." The transmission cut off again.

"Communications can you reroute the signal to Starfleet's emergency satellite?"

Marcus asked. "I can try" he replied, pushing a few buttons.

Suddenly a faint video came on. "I don't think we have long captain" Mann said.

Marcus shot back a look at Mann."Yeah tell me something I don't know" she replied sarcastically.

"Commander Jeffries if you can hear us. I am Captain Emmalyn Marcus of the Starship Montana. We are here to help you" She said casually.

Suddenly the weakened voice came back.

"T..Thanks Em...nice...captain...now….I...help" Jeffries said before the screen went black.

"It appears Starfleet is using the satellite now and I've been kicked off" Comms commented.

"Ok our first act is gonna be finding him. I'm going back to sleep. Inform me of anything urgent." Marcus ordered.

Marcus was now walking back to her room. However she stopped at her chair for a minute. "Great job lieutenant I'm impressed"

Mann did smile back at the Captain and then turned his attention to the problem.

The Communications Office spoke out, “Sir, we have lost everything.”

“So, are the communications being jammed?” asked Mann?
“I am not sure, but now there is nothing”

Mann looked over at the Helm Officer, “Increase speed to warp 8.5” he ordered.

The Helm Officer looked back,

“Sir, that will be a bit over the redline and there is no guarantee we can maintain that speed for too long.”

Looking back at the Helm Mann responded,

“I am aware of my responsibilities, mister. Carry out the order.”

Following his order the ship increased speed. Mann did not know what was going on, but Jeffries was his friend, and had been his friend for a while, he was not going to let him down now.
