Mission: The Romulan War
Timeline: (About Three Hours Before the Mission to the planet)

The Captain sat in his quarters, waiting for the First Officer to arrive..

The Captain could not help but wonder if they were on the proper mission. Why was this ship sent... it simply made no sense.

Commander Murphy rang the chime at the Captain’s quarters. He had been putting the finishing touches on some plans to improve crew morale. They needed everyone at their best, and that meant their attitudes, too. When he heard the Captain call out, Murphy entered the quarters.

“You wanted to see me, sir?” Murphy asked.

"Commander, come in, please. Have a seat. He got a bottle of whiskey and two glasses, "Fancy a drink, commander?"

“That sounds perfect,” Murphy answered as he took a seat. It was nice to relax a little, with everyone having been so on edge.

Pouring two drinks, the Captain asked, "Commander, I want your honest opinion. Are we in over our heads?"

"I think anyone in our situation would be," Murphy answered. "But I also think we'll handle it."

Handing the Commander his drink, Adams added, "I cannot help but wonder if the ship, by Starfleet thinking, is expendable? We are more of a science ship, not a warship."

Murphy accepted it and had some. "They didn't send a warship because they aren't looking for war. I've never heard Starfleet use words like expendable before. But it's comforting to think they aren't expecting us to fight."

"Yet, it seems we are heading in that direction. Commander, I was assigned to this ship and I will protect it, with my life, if need be. That said, I want you to 'keep an eye on me.' I am always looking for the way out, you are ordered to ensure that I am not looking for that when I should be firing on the other side.. clear?"

This didn't surprise Murphy. High stress missions would require keeping an eye on the Captain. He was impressed by Adams' self-awareness, though. "Yes, sir. You can count on me."

"Very well... Let's have another..."
