Katja looked at the scrolling data on her screen and a temporary sense of terror raced through her. After years of grueling education and training…this was it. The culmination of a lifetime’s worth of dreams and suddenly it was here…real. What was she going to do? She wasn’t ready! She wasn’t—

Taking a deep cleansing breath, Katja reined in her suddenly racing thoughts and managed to halt the sudden onset of sweaty palms and racing heart. She HAD trained for this. She WAS ready.

Her accented voice broke the silence of her room as she began to read her orders aloud.

“Lieutenant Katja Becker, you are hereby ordered to report to USS-Montana NCC-1889…”

Her career as a Starfleet officer—and a medical doctor—was beginning.

She hadn’t noticed one thing as she did her initial read in silence, but as she was reading it aloud something became clear…
