Mission: The World We Never Knew

(On the Bridge of the Montana)

The Captain sat in his chair when a ship started to move towards them:

Lt. Mann said, "Captain, we have a VERY large ship heading our way. By large, I mean we are outgunned, three or four, to one."

Captain Adams tried to remember what his idol, Captain Pike, would have done as the ship got closer and closer.

The Communications officer said, "Captain we have an incoming hail."

"On Screen" came the reply.

A man appeared that was almost human wearing what could only be described as a uniform, a military uniform.

"This is Captain Jackson Adams of the USS Montana, representing the United Federation of Planets. How can we help you?"

The figure on the screen replied, "You can tell us why you are assisting those that are marked for death? They are traitors and you have no real jurisdiction here, Captain."

"They asked for our assistance and, as the Federation acknowledges this world as being under our protection, we feel we do have certain obligations..."

Commander Murphy eyed the man, already mapping out options to get the refugee ship to safety if this conversation didn't go well. They also still had some of their own crew down on Babel. He knew that the Captain was aware of the precariousness of the situation.

[Planet's Surface - Away Team]

The initial damage assessments were indeed correct. Under the supervision of both Ens. O’Donnel and Lt. Ryan, the needed parts and spares were transported from the USS Montana to the planet’s surface. Steve eyed the last transport of material as a series of pipes and metal plates appeared close to the ship’s entrance and a set of engineers rushed to the pile of material to take it and use it.

The black haired lieutenant smiled satisfied, that was indeed quite some teamwork they were pulling off. He turned and entered the ship once again, headed for the bridge, where Deborah was working hard with a couple of her colleagues to remap controls from the old consoles to the new ones.

“This one shall go there” she instructed one of the engineers, showing her something resembling a coil. “Install it in that panel, run a quick diagnostic and then you can get back to work on the missing shielding plates on the outside and …” she noted the entrance of Steve as she was speaking “...oh, welcome, are you here to help me out or just to distract me?” she joked smiling dismissing the colleague.
Steve smiled back “oh, I don’t think I can do much good here. Just wanted to know how it was going and if anything else was needed”

She shrugged “We’re doing the best we can with what we have. The needed tools and materials had been displaced and it’s already being installed, we need more workers tho. Takes time to rewire and fix a ship this big” she concluded.

“I see” he pondered “I can help with running diagnostics if needed, any idea of how much time we still need? just to give an update to the boss up there” he pointed his right finger towards the sky, smiling.

Deborah took a deep breath and pondered for a couple of seconds. “Five hours to have something drafted. Meaning, everything should work but there might be some fine tuning to do. Here” she motioned towards an half open console on the bridge gesturing him to close in “You can use this one to contact the Montana, so we can test it too”

“Oh, nice” he closed in to the console and punched a couple of buttons

=^= USS Montana from the away team =^= and waited for the ship’s reply.

=^= Montana here, this is Commander Murphy =^=

=^= It's Lieutenant Ryan here, I'm talking to you through the stranded ship's comm system. We're making progress but we'll need another 5 hours to have green lights in all systems =^=

=^= How much time do you need if you focus on essential systems only? Propulsion, life support, and such. =^=

Steve rose his eyes from the comm console to look for an acknowledgement of the timings from Doborah. She was close by, listening to the exchange between the Montana and them. She shrugged and pondered, before rising her eyebrows and, with un uncertain voice, stating: "We can try and make it in four, shaving some time here and there"

Steve nodded

=^= Engineering says we can try to make it in four hours...roughly =^=

=^= You may have to think outside the box. That ship needs to be spaceworthy asap. =^=
