A break from the action

Mission: The World We Never Knew
Location: Starbase 12

ON:

"Attention all hands, this is your Commander speaking. We have successfully parked at Starbase 12. The duty rosters are hereby reduced to minimum staffing so all crew will have time to visit the starbase or otherwise enjoy recreational time. We anticipate returning to normal duty assignments in one week's time. Enjoy yourselves, and don't do anything that could be reported to a Starfleet Admiral. Commander out."

Murphy turned to the rest of the bridge staff. "How was that?"

The Captain smiled and replied. "It seems good to me. I can not get a fresh supply of Diet Pepsi and I want to find a quiet little bar. Maybe I will go climb a rock too."

Turning to the Executive Officer he continued, "Commander after we get some rest here, we will continue on to earth. I believe it will take us three of four more weeks to get there."

"Aye, Captain," Murphy replied. He couldn't wait to get back to Earth. As much as he enjoyed exploring, there simply was no place like home.

Ryan logged off from his station and eyed the commander “Practicing for your own command, sir?” he raised his right cheek in an asymmetrical smile.

Murphy couldn't hide his own smile. "That depends. Did it sound Captain-y?"

Steve wore a serious expression and slowly nodded a few times “Indeed” he said “I would snap to the attention, Sir. And, in this case, I would comply with the order and go off duty” he tried to hide a chuckle after the last sentence.

Murphy laughed, "It's one of the easier orders to follow, for sure."

He looked around the bridge. "I'll briefly be attending a social gathering at The Twelve tonight, if anyone else wants to attend." The Twelve was the main bar and entertainment venue on Starbase 12. An event had been planned purposefully to give the officers something to look forward to while visiting.

“The Twelve?” Steve asked “I’ve never heard of it to be honest” he shily admitted “Is it an official event with dress code and ceremonial or a more relaxed kind of gathering?” asked.

"Very relaxed," Murphy answered. "I expect to see a mix of duty uniforms and casual clothes".

"Then, if that's the case, might join as well and see such a famous place" Steve announced.

"That's the spirit!" Murphy said with excitement.

"With your permission, sir, I'll make my way to get a shower and a change of clothes and I'll join you at the gathering then" the black haired lieutenant said just before leaving the bridge headed for his quarters.

"Granted, Lieutenant," Murphy said. He allowed himself a moment to relax, grateful for the break from the usual concerns.
