Personal Log, Lt. Aubrie Fox

I’ve been back aboard the Montana long enough to know when something—or someone—is going to test my patience. Lieutenant Veen fits that description a little too perfectly.

This evening, I responded to a security alert from Engineering. I expected a standard system glitch or maybe one of the new techs punching in the wrong clearance code. What I found instead was Veen, elbow-deep in a console with the access panel hanging off like a peeled hull plate and a look that said he’d been caught red-handed.

To his credit, he didn’t try too hard to cover it up. The “security breach” turned out to be… a bag of coffee beans. My favorite blend, apparently. I’m not sure what kind of logic leads someone to bypass a transporter lockout to beam contraband caffeine into a superior officer’s quarters, but I have to admit—points for creativity.

He’s reckless, charming, and just enough trouble to make me uneasy. But there’s something disarming about him, too. He doesn’t posture or play games—at least, not the kind most people play. There’s honesty in his mischief, if that makes any sense.

Still, I’ll be keeping an eye on him. For security reasons, of course.

...But maybe I’ll try the coffee in the morning.
