What Shall We Do?

Posted on Sun Oct 1st, 2023 @ 5:01pm by Lieutenant Steve Ryan

Mission: Home Sweet home.
Location: Mess Hall

“I want to take a day or two off from the ship once we’re back home” The blonde haired engineer told a colleague while sipping a cup of what was probably coffee in a “USS Montana” mug.

“Ah do you really think you’ll be allowed to do that?” came a voice from her back.

Deborah turned and smiled to the mysterious voice.

“Of course, the Captain said we’re headed home and we’re due R&R” she said with a flirty voice “got plans?”

Steve closed in with a donut in his hands. “Well” he approached the two asking for permission to seat “The ship shall be refitted and Engineering will be needed for that” he sat “Well, It’s a long time since I last hit home, might as well pass and say hi” he shrugged “Or am open to suggestions in case someone has any idea”.

“Why don’t you guys go to the seaside?” the other colleague spoke “Some sun, some fresh sea breeze and sand…or rocks” he shrugged.

Deborah pointed to him laying her mug on the table “Now, that’s an idea” she matched Steve’s eyes “Seaside?”

The lieutenant finished the last bite from his donut and frowned “Seaside?” he paused for a second “I mean, I like the idea of some sun and all that but the seaside is boring”.

It is not” the engineer countered “Plenty of things to do on a seaside. Sunbathe, read, walk here and there, have a swim…” she kept listing all of them.

“Oh, c’mon, reading? I can read in my bunk here in my quarters anytime” Steve bursted.

The male engineer that initially suggested the seaside escape felt he actually messed things up. Not willing to become a collateral damage of the quarrel between the two, he quickly disappeared leaving the mess hall while the two arguing officers kept discussing the pro and cons of the seaside trip.
